Stepping up to Wellness
Health and Wellness. What is the difference between the two? Health is the overall mental and physical state of a person - the absence of disease. Wellness, on the other hand, is all about being in optimal mental and physical health, living a life full of personal responsibility and being proactive about maintaining our entire well-being.
This year, Monash Malaysia’s Counselling, Health and Wellness Services, in collaboration with students from Monash University Pharmacy Society (MUPhaS), put together the Step Up to Wellness and MUPhaS Public Health Campaign 2018 ‘Depression: Let’s Talk’.
The two-day event featured informative talks by speakers from Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Sunway Medical Centre and Befrienders Kuala Lumpur, as well as a forum on Sexual Safety with a panel of speakers from the Royal Malaysia Police, MindWorks Psychology and Counselling Centre, and Dr Goh Pei Hwa - Lecturer from our Department of Psychology.
Associate Professor Dr Victor Chuang, Head of School of Pharmacy, applauded the organisers as he said the event serves an extremely important purpose, and encouraged more similar campaigns and talks to be held in the future.
Students and staff were invited to participate in some stress-relieving activities such as colouring, and others were invited to write things that stress them out the most on balloons, and pop them, which caught the attention of many students. There was also a free health screening and opportunity to get to know our counsellors.
