We were honoured to receive Australia's Minister for Education, The Honourable Dan Tehan MP and Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia, His Excellency Andrew Goledzinowski AM, on 19 November 2019. This was Minister Tehan's first visit to Monash Malaysia.

"Wonderful to see the outstanding research and teaching being delivered at Monash University Malaysia. It shows the real benefits of the historic partnership between Australia and Malaysia. Great to see Monash building on these foundations," said Minister Tehan.

During the roundtable discussion with Minister Tehan and guests, President and Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Andrew Walker talked about Monash's success in building a vibrant education and research platform right here in the heart of ASEAN. The third-largest campus of Monash University, Monash Malaysia has become Australia's platform for research and education engagement in the region.

Associate Professor Poh Phaik Eong from the School of Engineering presented her research on sustainable transformation via greywater recycling and explained the importance of water security for rural transformation and socio-economic growth in ASEAN to our distinguished guests. Dr Tridib Saha, also from the School of Engineering, highlighted the usage of ultraviolet (UV) sensors for future wearable technology and its effectiveness in measuring UV index.

Minister Tehan and guests were then taken on tour to visit our research facilities. He had an insightful time learning about our neuroscience research and nanoscale analysis services while visiting the Brain Research Institute Monash Sunway (BRIMS) and Nano-Analytical Platform (NAP) laboratories.

If only time had been on our side (or Minister Tehan's side), we could have taken him on a full campus tour. Perhaps, next time - when he returns!
