The  fourth Sir John Monash Lecture in 2017 will be presented by Professor Jackie Y. Ying  on Nanostructured materials for energy and biomedical applications.

Brief Synopsis

Nanostructured materials can be designed with sophisticated features to fulfill the complex requirements of advanced material applications.

Professor Ying will share insights on the synthesis of metallic, metal oxide, semiconducting and organic nanoparticles and nanocomposites of controlled size, morphology and architecture. The nanocrystalline building blocks are used to create excellent materials for catalytic, fuel cell and battery applications. She has also designed and functionalised nanostructured materials for drug delivery, nanomedicine, biosensor, cell culture and tissue engineering applications. The lecture will also cover the unique properties of the various nanostructured materials synthesised.

Speaker’s Profile

Prof Ying received her BE and PhD from The Cooper Union and Princeton University, respectively. She was a Professor of Chemical Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Prof Ying has been recognised with numerous awards. She was also elected as a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, and is a member of the German National Academy of Sciences, Leopoldina. She was named one of the 'One Hundred Engineers of the Modern Era' by American Institute of Chemical Engineers in its Centennial Celebration. She was the inaugural winner of the Mustafa Prize 'Top Scientific Achievement Award' in 2015 for her research in bio-nanotechnology. She is the Editor-in-Chief of Nano Today, which has an Impact Factor of 17.476.
