Dr. Alice Chuah is a senior lecturer in the School of Pharmacy. She is a registered pharmacist in Malaysia, and has had experience working in hospital and community pharmacies. During her PhD studies, she was awarded the World Federation of Scientist (WFS) Scholarships for two consecutive years. She also received the Malaysia National Cancer Council (MAKNA) Cancer Research Award in 2009. Her research focusses on novel drug delivery systems for natural compounds. Her teaching philosophy is to nurture independent thinkers and life-long learners.

Research Interest

My primary research area is to develop drug delivery systems for natural compounds. There is an abundace of natural compounds with proven therapeutic effects that have failed to bring their benefits to end users. These are often limited by the compound properties as well as inappropriate formulations. I believe that the key to this is through improved formulation of such compounds to overcome the limitations of poor solubility, poor absorption and poor bioavailability.

Research Projects

Current Projects

The development and evaluation of novel radiolabeled nano-formulations for use in nuclear imaging

This project aims to develop a radiolabled nano-formulation suitable for use in nuclear imaging. Successful development of such nano-formulation allows its use as a nano drug carrier for therapeutic purposes. Radiolabeled nano-formulation can be viewed and tracked in animal for biodistribution studies.

Fabrication of wound dressing membrane

This project will develop a wound dressing membrane incorporating natural wound healing compound. The membrane is biodegradable and is easy to use, suitable for patients to change the dressing at their convenience.
