📚INTRODUCTION TO ENSEMBL

DATE: 26 FEBRUARY 2018
TIME: 8.30AM - 5PM
VENUE: COMPUTER LAB 12, 9-5-03, MONASH UNIVERSITY MALAYSIA, JALAN LAGOON SELATAN, 47500 BANDAR SUNWAY, SELANGOR DARUL EHSAN, MALAYSIA

Ensembl is a database for storing assembled and annotated genome sequences, enabling it to be shared worldwide, without any restrictions. The Ensembl Genome Browser allows visualisation of this data for selected microbes, invertebrates and vertebrate species, including humans and other model organisms. This workshop will introduce and explain the salient features of the browser and participants will learn how to explore the genomes of their species of interest. Examples from the mouse and human genomes will be presented throughout the day with a mixture of short lectures, demonstrations and hands-on-practical.

📚THE UCSC GENOME BROWSER

DATE: 19 MARCH 2018
TIME: 8.30AM - 5PM
VENUE: COMPUTER LAB 12, 9-5-03, MONASH UNIVERSITY MALAYSIA, JALAN LAGOON SELATAN, 47500 BANDAR SUNWAY, SELANGOR DARUL EHSAN, MALAYSIA

The University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC) developed the UCSC Genome Browser to ensure free public on-line access to the annotated human genome reference that was sequenced by the Human Genome Project consortium (http://genome.ucsc.edu). This powerful graphical interface is a major gateway for researchers to explore the human genome to address their scientific curiosities. This one day workshop will guide the novice through the latest version of the browser explaining its salient features  through practical demonstrations and lectures. Selected human genes will be used as examples to illustrate the wealth of information that is available to improve our understanding of the human genome in health and disease.

📚POWER OF STATISTICS FOR DECISION MAKERS: PATTERNS, PREDICTION AND  PRESCRIPTIVE ANALYTICS

DATE: 5-6 APRIL 2018
TIME: 9AM - 5PM
VENUE: MUSST LAB (BUILDING 6B, LEVEL 4), MONASH UNIVERSITY MALAYSIA, JALAN LAGOON SELATAN, 47500 BANDAR SUNWAY, SELANGOR DARUL EHSAN, MALAYSIA

This short course is designed to provide participants a foundation in the use of statistics for decision making. The course will introduce empirical analysis of relationships among observed variables. The approach is based on linear regression theory, data visualisation, and emphasises hands-on data analysis. Data analytical tools to aid interpretation and presentation of results will also be discussed. Attention will also be geared towards introducing participants to different types of data that will require special attention to the type of statistical tools used for policy formulation and decision making. This course will provide participants with sound understanding of key statistical tools that are used widely by practitioners and researchers.
