POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH CONFERENCE SUBSIDY                           

GUIDELINES

Instructions to candidates : 

1)The Postgraduate Research Conference Subsidy Application form must be submitted to the School Research Office (SRO) six (6) weeks before paying of the conference registration fee, flight and accommodation (Note: The Committee will decide on the conference application based on the merit of the Conference. The Committee is under no obligation to endorse a conference application simply because the candidate has made payments prior to the committee's endorsement on the application).
2) Applications will NOT be considered retrospectively and will be rejected;
3) No candidate will receive more in total than the maximum amount of conference subsidies (supported with receipts). 

 

Postgraduate Research Conference Subsidy (within Malaysia, Southeast Asia, Asia (excluding East Asia) and outside Asia) 

Conference subsidy assist with the expenses of doctoral and research masters candidates who  wish to present at least one paper in well-established and high impact international/national conferences during the period of their candidature.  The candidate should show evidence that these conferences are strategically chosen to allow networking with established scholars in their field of study; and offer high possibility of publication outcome of their paper whether in the form of conference proceedings, book chapters or journal articles. 

 

THE PRIORITY OF CONFERENCE EXPENSES IS TO COVER AIRFARE, ACCOMMODATION AND REGISTRATION FEES (reimbursement is subject to submitting original receipts). 

Eligibility to attend a conference (within Malaysia, Southeast Asia, Asia (excluding East Asia) and outside Asia) 

To be eligible the applicant must:

  • be currently enrolled, either as a doctoral or Masters (100% research) candidate at School of Arts & Social Sciences, Monash University Malaysia campus and have completed the confirmation of candidature process;
  • be presenting a paper at a conference (advisable to publish A1, B1, C1 and E1 DIICCSRTE category of publications);
  • be principal author of the paper being presented, which must cover original, ongoing research, be largely the postgraduate’s own work, report recent findings and be directly related to the applicant’s thesis topic. 

Ineligible 

  • A candidate who is on intermission from candidature for the period of the proposed conference;
  • Candidates who have not completed the confirmation of candidature milestone;
  • Candidates who have submitted their thesis for examination;
  • Candidates who have attended more than one (1) conference per year in regardless of the regions.

 

POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH ACTIVITIES FUNDING

GUIDELINES

1) Any postgraduate research candidates who meet the criteria below may apply for the Postgraduate Research Activities Funding from the School of Arts & Social Sciences by completing and submitting the application form appended to these guidelines: 

To be eligible the applicant must:

  • be currently enrolled, either as a doctoral or Masters (100% research) candidate at School of Arts & Social Sciences, Monash University Malaysia and have completed the confirmation of candidature milestone and/or;
  • be currently enrolled, either as a doctoral or Masters (100% research) candidate at School of Arts & Social Sciences, Monash University Malaysia and have not completed the confirmation of candidature milestone but wants to attend relevant research training (s) (e.g. understanding case studies, quantitative/qualitative analysis etc.) that will assist them in their confirmation of candidature.


Ineligible

  • Candidates who are on intermission from candidature for the period of the proposed research activities;  
  • Candidates who have not completed the confirmation of candidature milestone and do not want to attend relevant research training (s) prior to confirmation of candidature.
  • Candidates who have submitted their thesis for examination. 

 

2) Applications for the Postgraduate Research Activities Funding must be submitted to the School Research Office (SRO) four (4) weeks before commencing the following research activities: 

a)    Fieldwork
b)    Research materials
c)    Research Training (s)

3) The funding will cover the following type of expenses: 
a)    Accommodation;
b)    Transportation (mileage, toll, taxi, bus, flight, train and related subject to approval);
c)    Research materials (e.g. online research survey, DVDs and related subject to prior approval);
d)    Research Training (s) 

4) Reimbursement is subject to submission of original receipts. 

5) The maximum value of funding for the year 2015:
    RM1,500.00 per candidate (combined amount with the conference subsidy)
 

     Note: Subject to annual budget approval.

 

Applications

i) Applicants are required to complete the Postgraduate Research Conference Subsidy Application Form when applying for conference subsidies and submit it to the School Research Office (SRO).
ii) Applicants are required to complete the Postgraduate Research Conference Subsidy Travel Report Form and submit it to the School Research Office (SRO) within (2) weeks of return from the conference. 
iii) Applicants are required to complete the Postgraduate Research Activities Funding Application Form if applying for research activities funding and submit it to the School Research Office (SRO).
iv) Applicants are required to complete the Postgraduate Research Activities Funding Travel Report Form and submit it to the School Research Office (SRO) within (2) weeks of return from the field trip. 

Note: 

The completed application form and report will be forwarded by SRO to the School HDR Committee (SHDRC) for their review and endorsement.
