Science talk with SMJK Keat Hwa students
20 February 2019
When we were seven, we had to write down what we wanted to be. An astronaut, a ballerina, a pilot. We see no limitations in pursuing our childhood dreams. However, as we grow older, we start to question whether these aspirations are realistic or not.
So, if we were to be asked “what do you want to be when you grow up” the second time round, our answers won’t be as firm. In fact, we may even decide to scrap the idea and look for another one. Let’s face it, finding a new dream is not as easy. Most of the time, we would just go “I don’t know”, “Not sure yet” or “I’m still thinking”.
These aren’t ideal answers and they worry parents. Hence, as an effort to motivate the younger generations to have more control over their career life, Dr Lee Yee Ying conducted a science talk at Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan Keat Hwa, Alor Setar.
70 Form 5 and Form 6 students participated in the one hour talk session which introduced the various career path options available in the science field. During the session, they also got to know about our school and the three main science courses that we offer - Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Food Science and Technology as well as Bachelor of Medical Bioscience.
Seeing how their happy faces lit up, we assume that the students are now more aware of the many opportunities that are waiting for them to pursue. It was a rewarding day indeed for we are honoured to be able to help them take a step closer to achieving their dreams.
