Associate Professor Lee Sui Mae obtained a first-class Honours degree from University Malaya in 2004 and PhD from University of Otago, New Zealand in 2009. Her PhD was based on discovering how antimicrobial-resistant bacteria adapt to environmental stress. In 2010, she was appointed as a lecturer in the School of Science, Monash University Malaysia and as of 2016, as a Senior Lecturer. Her current research interests include the identification and characterisation of novel bioactive compounds from microbes and plants, investigations into antimicrobial resistance with a focus on extended spectrum beta lacatamase (ESBL) bacteria; vancomycin, Enterococci and Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus; the application of antimicrobial compounds to new materials and the role of stress response genes in biofilm formation.
Outside of work, she likes to spend time with family, friends and with her pets, Titus - a leopard tortoise - and Misha, her Frisbee playing puppy. Her hobbies include computer gaming, skydiving, bungee jumping, horse riding and photography.
