  • Growth factors are important for regulating important cellular process Binding of growth factors to its receptor initiate the cellular signaling process and resulted in  cell survival, cell growth, proliferation, differentiation, and healing. Growth factor, Heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor (HB-EGF) is the ligand EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) and it involved in apoptosis, fibrosis and cancer. I study protective effects and regenerating ability of HB-EGF in various diseases like Fas-induced liver apoptosis, acetaminophen-induced liver necrosis, cholestatic liver injury and fibrosis, Alzheimer’s disease and viral infection.
  • Some chemotherapeutic drugs cause over expression of HB-EGF. In colon cancer cell lines, over expressed HB-EGF acts on EGFR and resulted in chemoresistance. I investigate to find the proteins, which can control HB-EGF and attenuate EGFR signaling.
