FAQs for the latest Movement Control Order (MCO)

The Government of Malaysia has announced that the Movement Control Order (MCO) will be reimposed commencing 13 January 2021. The MCO is affects 6 states across Malaysia, which include :

  • Penang
  • Selangor
  • Wilayah Persekutuan (KL, Labuan & Putrajaya)
  • Melaka
  • Johor
  • Sabah

Please note that the rules and regulations are subject to change by the Government of Malaysia with little notice.

  1. EMGS DOES NOT SEEM TO BE CLOSED. IS IT STILL OPERATING DURING MCO?

  2. HOW DOES THIS AFFECT MY APPLICATION FOR NEW STUDENT PASS OR RENEWAL OF STUDENT PASS?

    Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) will not be accepting passport submissions during the Movement Control Order (MCO). There will be no processing of applications for any Student Passes.

  3. HOW DOES THIS AFFECT THE APPLICATIONS FOR MY DEPENDANTS?

    Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) will not be accepting passport submissions during the Movement Control Order (MCO). There will be no processing of applications for any dependants.

  4. CAN I LEAVE THE COUNTRY WITH AN EXPIRED STUDENT PASS?

    You may leave Malaysia on an unexpired Student Pass up to 14 days from the end of the MCO.

  5. I AM A NEW STUDENT AND WOULD LIKE TO ENTER MALAYSIA. HOW CAN I DO THIS?

    We are currently awaiting further updates from the Malaysian Government. Once we have received the information, we will update the Entry Guidelines to guide students in entering Malaysia.

  6. I NEED TO TAKE A FLIGHT BACK HOME AND WORRIED ABOUT BEING STOPPED ON THE WAY TO THE AIRPORT. HOW CAN I APPLY FOR PERMISSION TO TRAVEL TO THE AIRPORT?

    You may apply for a letter of permission to travel with the nearest police station.

    Step 1 : Apply for an Enrollment Verification Letter here.

    Step 2 : Take the Enrollment Verification Letter, flight ticket and passport to the Sunway police station.

    Step 3 : Bring the letter of permission with you to the airport

  7. I AM BACK IN MY HOME COUNTRY. MY STUDENT PASS HAS EXPIRED OR WILL EXPIRE, WHAT DO I DO?

    You will only need to begin the process of renewal of your Student Pass two months before arriving back in Malaysia.

  8. I AM STILL IN MALAYSIA. MY STUDENT PASS WILL EXPIRE DURING THE MOVEMENT CONTROL ORDER. WHAT DO I DO?

    If you have begun renewing your Student Pass, EMGS will continue processing your renewal once the MCO has been lifted.

  9. I AM STILL IN MALAYSIA AND RECENTLY COMPLETED MY COURSE AT MONASH UNIVERSITY MALAYSIA. CAN I EXTEND MY STUDENT PASS TO CONTINUE REMAINING IN MALAYSIA? 

    It is not possible for you to renew or extend your Student Pass once you have completed your course. You must make arrangements to leave Malaysia before the expiry of your student pass to avoid potential adverse implications for your visa.

  10. I AM IN THE MIDST OF RENEWING MY STUDENT PASS. WHAT HAPPENS NOW?

    EMGS will only process applications for renewals once the MCO has been lifted.

  11. I AM A CURRENT STUDENT CURRENTLY RESIDING OUTSIDE OF MALAYSIA. CAN I STILL TRAVEL TO MALAYSIA DURING MCO?

    You are advised to check said Entry Guidelines and Quarantine Procedure for information on entering Malaysia and EMGS website for the latest updated information. Please note that the rules and regulations are subject to change by the Government of Malaysia with little notice.

  12. CAN I COLLECT MY PASSPORT FROM THE ISP OFFICE DURING THE MOVEMENT CONTROL ORDER?

    Staff and students are not allowed to enter campus during the MCO. The ISP Office will not be able to arrange for you to collect your passport as the Monash Malaysia campuses will be closed during the MCO period.

  13. I AM A CURRENT STUDENT. SINCE WE CAN LEAVE ON AN EXPIRED STUDENT PASS DURING MCO, DO I STILL NEED TO RENEW MY STUDENT PASS EVEN AFTER MCO HAS BEEN LIFTED? 

    If your Student Pass has expired during this MCO period and you are still in Malaysia, you must renew your Student Pass immediately once MCO has come to an end.

  14. I STARTED RENEWING MY STUDENT PASS BUT HAVE NOT COMPLETED THE PROCESS. MY PASSPORT IS STILL WITH ME. IF I LEAVE MALAYSIA DURING MCO, CAN I GET A REFUND?

  15. A CURRENT STUDENT. SINCE WE CAN LEAVE ON AN EXPIRED STUDENT PASS DURING MCO, DO I STILL NEED TO RENEW MY STUDENT PASS EVEN AFTER MCO HAS BEEN LIFTED? 

    If your Student Pass has expired during this MCO period and you are still in Malaysia, you must renew your Student Pass immediately once MCO has come to an end.
