SEACO is awarded ISO 9001 2008 Quality Management System Certification

August 25 2015 – SEACO (South East Asia Community Observatory) is pleased to announce it has been awarded the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Certificate by the SAI Global Certification Services for the management of integrated research technology platforms and the provision of innovative technologies to enable research outcomes.

ISO certification is based on quality management system including customer focus, leadership, involvement of people, process approach, systematic approach to management and continual improvement. This accreditation motivates SEACO to continue in ensuring stakeholders’ and collaborators’ satisfaction through the effective application of the system. This includes processes for continual improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to them; and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

“We are extremely proud of our team for all the hard work they did to obtain the ISO 9001:2008 certification” says Nirmala Devarajan, SEACO Site Manager.

Prof. Pascale Allotey, the Associate International Director of SEACO stated that “SEACO is the only Monash University research infrastructure platform that is funded outside of Australia. Last year, the Monash University Platform Directors visited Segamat and the project managers within the ISO team suggested that given the level of rigour and standards applied to field operations, we include SEACO with the other Monash platforms applying for accreditation. Nirmala Devarajan, the site manager, and Mak Pee Kwang Xin, the now quality officer, set to work in formalising the processes and documentation required for the audit”.

According to Daniel D. Reidpath, Director of SEACO “There are about 45 sites like SEACO around the world and some of them had started in the mid-sixties. This is the first site to get ISO 9001:2008 certification.”
