Emergency Management
Overview
The first response to campus emergencies is provided by Security and the OHSE, depending on the nature of the emergency.
An emergency response team has been established to provide the first response to incidents, and a crisis management and recovery team has been established to manage major incidents.
How do we respond to emergencies?
- Upon being notified, security will notify the OHSE and facilities management of the incident.
- Staff will be dispatched to the emergency location for initial response and to gather information.
- Where necessary, first aid will be provided to anyone requiring medical assistance, and an ambulance may be called.
- If the incident triggers an emergency announcement, OHSE will make an announcement over the campus public address system.
- If required, the Crisis Management and Recovery team will be assembled to manage the incident and business recovery process
- Staff working after hours (from 6 pm to 7 am ) are required to register with Security for security and emergency management purposes.
- Students working after hours in laboratories are required to complete the After Hours ASANA form and attach their risk assessment activity to obtain approval. Students must refer to and familiarise themselves with the MUM After Hours Guideline
- A report will be generated in the Incident and Hazard Reporting System.
- OHSE will lead the investigation of the incident, with support from relevant staff, as required by the Incident Investigation Procedure.
- The investigation report and proposed findings will be presented to the affected School/Unit and the OHSE Committee.
