Safety Officer Network
Monash University Malaysia Safety Officer Network (SON)
The Safety Officer Network (SON) is a collaborative network of appointed Safety Officers representing Schools, Units, and Campuses across Monash University Malaysia. The network serves as a key mechanism to support the implementation of the University's Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (OHSE) framework and foster a positive safety culture throughout the organisation.
The Safety Officer Network aims to:
- Promote a proactive safety culture across all Schools, Units, and campuses.
- Facilitate effective communication and consultation on occupational health, safety, wellbeing, and environmental matters.
- Support the implementation of University OHSE policies, procedures, guidelines, and initiatives.
- Assist in identifying, assessing, and managing workplace hazards and risks within local areas.
- Encourage participation in safety programs, inspections, audits, emergency preparedness activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Serve as a liaison between local areas and the OHSE Team on safety-related matters.
Safety Officers act as local safety champions within their respective Schools and Units by:
- Supporting local compliance with OHSE requirements and applicable legislation.
- Assisting with workplace inspections, risk assessments, and incident reporting activities.
- Promoting safety awareness, training, and engagement initiatives.
- Participating in Safety Officer Network meetings, briefings, and professional development activities.
- Providing feedback on local safety issues, concerns, and improvement opportunities.
- Supporting emergency preparedness and response arrangements within their areas.
Safety Officers are appointed by The Heads of Schools/Units who ensure the person appointed to the role:
- has their delegated authority
- is provided with time to complete all required training, and
- is provided with sufficient resources and time for the completion of OHSE tasks.
