Haze Precaution Updates
The Department of Environment (DOE) Malaysia has reported Moderate to Unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in several areas across the country due to the ongoing haze situation. All staff and students are encouraged to remain vigilant and take appropriate precautions to minimise exposure to poor air quality.
In line with the Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia's advice, staff and students are encouraged to adopt the following precautionary measures:
- Limit outdoor activities: Reduce or avoid prolonged outdoor exposure, particularly strenuous physical activities. Consider rescheduling outdoor events, activities, and field trips where appropriate.
- Wear a suitable face mask: Use a properly fitted particulate-filtering mask, such as an N95 respirator, when outdoor exposure is unavoidable.
- Stay hydrated: Drink sufficient water throughout the day to maintain hydration.
- Minimise indoor exposure: Keep windows and doors closed where appropriate to reduce the entry of polluted outdoor air.
- Monitor your health: Seek medical attention if you experience persistent coughing, breathing difficulties, eye irritation, or worsening respiratory symptoms.
- Take extra precautions if vulnerable: Individuals with asthma, respiratory or heart conditions, pregnant women, children, and older adults should exercise additional caution. Those with existing medical conditions should keep their prescribed medication readily available and follow their healthcare provider's advice.
Stay Informed
Haze conditions and air quality levels may change throughout the day. We encourage everyone to monitor the latest API readings through the DOE's official Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) and follow relevant health advisories.
Let us work together to protect our health, safety, and wellbeing and maintain a safe and healthy campus environment.
