Why did you choose to study at Monash, and has it met your expectations so far?

Monash has attracted me in light of its consistent high ranking in the QS World University Rankings, reflecting a persistent quality delivery of education spanning campuses across the world. One reason I chose to do the Bachelor of Computer Science at Monash is the recognition of this course by the Australian Computer Society, further widening my career options as a future computer scientist. Additionally, I was enticed by the wide range of units that span topics delving into several niches under computer science, enabling me to cultivate my specific interests while still acquiring quality training in the generalised skills and knowledge that is expected of computer scientists. Their option for industrial training during study also made Monash stand out among other universities to me. So far I have only been pleasantly surprised by the options and facilities available to me even through my experience as a first year student, and I am looking forward to exploring further opportunities that Monash has to offer.

What do you love most about your student life at Monash?

Monash offers an exciting variety of events and activities which I can always choose to participate in throughout each semester. Being a part of the student association organizing committee has honed my leadership skills and I highly enjoy contributing to successful events for the Monash population. The students are from highly diverse backgrounds and interactions with the people around me have been rewarding and learning experiences. Additionally, the placement of the campus in the heart of urbanization meant that I got to enjoy modern aspects of city life integrated into my student life. I also enjoy studying my degree, whether it be due to the interactive learning style, the passion and committed lecturers or to the facilities such as the well equipped labs, the colorful variety of material in the library or the newly opened learning spaces all over the campus that provide a soothing and refreshing environment to amp up student productivity.

What opportunities did you participate in while at Monash? E.g. internships, conferences, study trips, volunteer programs, student exchange, etc. Can you tell us about your experience?

Being just out of my first year at Monash I have not yet had a chance to partake in most of the aforementioned; yet since Monash has established partnerships with a large number of highly respectable educational institutions and companies all over the world, this has opened a lot of pathways for me as a Monash student, and I am very excited to explore my options for student exchange and internship programs when the time comes. Asides from that, I learn a lot from the wide variety of talks hosted by people from all backgrounds, and I particularly enjoy the bustling on-campus career and internship fairs as they widen our perspective looking into the career world

Did you have any industry exposure/placements while studying at Monash? If so, do you think it has made a difference for you in terms of career preparation?

I have not yet had any industrial exposure as I am too early in my degree to apply for one; yet I am looking forward to applying for the Industrial Based Learning program through Monash that provides a semester of high quality industrial training to students in their final year at reputable establishments, as I am sure it will train me well towards my career life.

What are your career goals, or what impact would you like to have in the future?

I plan to eventually acquire a stable position at a reputable establishment upon graduation. I am looking to work abroad and this is facilitated by Monash through their internship programs with reputable foreign partner companies in which I hope to land a respectable internship position during my study. It also facilitates networking with people from all over the world in light of its partnership with leading universities across several countries to which we can apply for student exchange programs. In addition, I am hoping to eventually come back and complete a postgraduate degree. Through the skills I acquire from my time at Monash I am hoping to one day benefit the technology industry in the future, leaving behind a meaningful impact.
