Chemical Hazard/Spill/Gas Leak
Ensure the immediate safety of everyone in the vicinity.
If safe to do so:
- Ventilate if safe, and be prepared to evacuate – await instructions from Building Warden. Evacuation of the floor or building may be required.
- Report the spill to a Safety Officer – notify Security on 03 - 5514 6333 (external phone) OR 333 (Monash landline).
- Isolate the area.
Clean up after emergency response concluded
Avoid the creation of aerosols.
| Decontaminating affected personnel | Move affected personnel to a safe decontamination area. The treatment of serious injury must take precedence over decontamination if safe to do so. Caution: Consult Safety Data Sheet |
| Restrict unnecessary movement | Avoid spreading contamination. Isolate spill by erecting a temporary barricade and placing suitable warning signs. |
| Important | If there is a gas leak or ruptured pipes and valves, ventilate area and isolate valves on cylinders (when safe to do so). Call the Campus Security on 03 - 5514 6333 (external phone) OR 333 (Monash landline) and OHS on 03 - 5514 4481. |
