The School of Pharmacy, Monash University Malaysia, participated in the Visiting Professor Program hosted by the Faculty of Vocational Studies at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) from 10 to 14 October 2024. The program focused on academic exchange in microbiome research, bioinformatics, and the application of data science and artificial intelligence to support the advancement of traditional medicine and holistic healthcare.
As part of this engagement, a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was formalised between the School of Pharmacy, Monash University Malaysia and UNY to promote collaborative initiatives in research, teaching, and capacity building. The agreement establishes a foundation for joint academic activities, including research projects, curriculum enhancement, training, workshops, and student–staff engagement.
The academic sessions included lectures and discussions led by Dr Song Cheen, representing the future Monash Malaysia Microbiome Research Centre. The program also featured knowledge sharing by UNY academics and visits to laboratory and teaching facilities across UNY’s Kulon Progo campus.
This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to strengthening regional academic networks and fostering innovation at the intersection of traditional medicine and modern scientific approaches. Moving forward, both institutions look forward to expanding this partnership and working together on impactful research, teaching, and community initiatives.
