4th MyPSA Online Inter-University Clinical Skill Event 2021 Championship

The annual competition aims to increase the exposure of pharmacy students throughout Malaysia to various clinical scenarios in hopes to improve their competency as future clinical pharmacists. Participants are expected to apply their clinical knowledge in reviewing patient’s information and current therapy, identifying and solving drug-related problems, and recommending appropriate pharmaceutical care plans.

This year’s theme was ‘Towards a Better Clinical Pharmacy Profession!’ which comprised of two stages:

Stage 1: with three sets of case studies in MCQ format
Stage 2: with three sets of case studies in SAQ format.

To qualify for Stage 2, participants had to score more than 70 per cent.

When asked about how she came across the contest, Sim mentioned seeing MyPSA’s Instagram post. The organising team had also introduced it during the MyPSA x MIMS Case Clerking Workshop.

“I would say I didn't have much time to prepare for this event. I only knew about it after the organising team shared it on social media, which was already the start of the event. One of the challenges I faced was difficulty in recalling knowledge learned in previous years (Year 1 and Year 2) and linking it into a more practical scenario that reflects the current clinical practice. Moreover, I haven't learned about several topics applied to clinical cases. So I looked for information from multiple sources online and while recalling what I had learned,” said Sim.

Sim also expressed her gratitude for the support she received throughout the whole process. “Whenever I find topics difficult to understand, I will consult my seniors and friends. I will also seek their advice on how to strike a balance between studies and other activities,” she shared.

Her advice to current students: “I would advise current students to participate actively in activities organised by external organisations like MyPSA. It helps to build essential skills to become a competent pharmacist in the future and it serves as a platform to expand social networking by interacting with students from different universities.”

Excellent work, Sim. We are proud of you!
