UM Hackathon 2025

UM Hackathon 2025

UMHackathon 2025, held from 7th to 20th April 2025 at Kompleks Perdana Siswa, Universiti Malaya, was a national-level competition organized by Persatuan Komputer Universiti Malaya (PEKOM) and the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology. The hackathon brought together some of the brightest student innovators in the country to tackle challenges in Data Science and Machine Learning.

Representing Monash University Malaysia, Hew Jin Hong joined forces with Universiti Malaya students Sim Sze Yu, Lim Jack Sheng, John Ong Ming Hom, and Lee Ing Zhen to form a dynamic team. Motivated by the challenge and inspired by the hackathon’s domain, the team set out to tackle the issue of transparency in Islamic donations through an innovative FinTech solution. In preparation, they explored key areas such as Islamic finance, blockchain, and Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO), equipping themselves with the knowledge to strengthen their project.

After days of brainstorming, coding, and late-night debugging, the team’s hard work paid off as they secured the 1st Runner-Up position at UMHackathon 2025.
