Why did you choose to study [your degree/area of study]?

From a young age, I found computers to be fascinating. Many of the things that I enjoyed doing - playing video games, surfing the web and exploring anything that piqued my curiosity - involved computers. I was particularly inspired by my older cousin, who built impressive websites, and I aspired to do the same.

During my A Levels, I took a computer science course and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was during this time that I discovered my love for problem-solving and learning about new technologies. Furthermore, I became increasingly interested in developing games and web/mobile apps, which led me to pursue a degree in Computer Science. Overall, it was a clear choice for me, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work in this constantly evolving and exciting field.

Why did you choose to study at Monash, and has it met your expectations so far?

Monash is a reputable university with excellent computer science programs and is globally ranked as one of the top 50 universities in the world.

As a student from Nepal, Monash University Malaysia was a great choice for me because of its close proximity to my home country, making travel easier and more affordable. Additionally, studying at Monash Malaysia was significantly less expensive than studying at Monash Australia, even for the same degree.

I loved the fact that apart from studies, Monash University Malaysia offers many sports and extracurricular activities to participate in, allowing students to make the most out of their student life. Hence, It has definitely met my expectations, both in terms of the quality of education and the overall student experience

Please tell us about your IBL experience. What did you learn and do you think it has helped to prepare you for your future career?

My IBL placement has been a transformative experience! I interned at Wavelet Solutions as a software developer, along with four other Monash students. Enrolling in the program was seamless because I didn’t have to find companies to apply to; my application was forwarded to Monash’s partner companies.

In just 23 weeks, I gained an unbelievable amount of new technical and non-technical skills. Being an IBL intern has helped me get hands-on experience with the latest and greatest technologies under the guidance of expert industry professionals. Not only did I apply the concepts I learnt during my degree, but I discovered many topics, patterns and approaches that I would like to further explore. It has allowed me to grow out of my comfort zone and achieve big milestones as a CS student quickly. It has better prepared me for my future career.

What other types of opportunities did you participate in? (E.g. internships, student exchange, clubs and societies, field trips, conferences, competitions, etc.)

Apart from my five-month IBL internship as a software developer, I participated in many extracurricular activities. Some of them are as follows:

  • Member of the Monash Futsal Club - played in fun sessions and tournaments.
  • Represented Manticore in the Monash Cup as part of the futsal team - reached the finals.
  • Tech Team Co-Lead for GDSC MUM, gave tech talks and workshops on Google technologies both online and in person.
  • Served as part of the MUISS Secretary Subcommittee - organized events for international students.
  • Performed for Team India at the Monash Cultural Night 2022.

What do you enjoy most about your student life at Monash?

While there were many aspects of student life at Monash that I enjoyed, such as learning how the world works, discovering my own interests and biases, and trying the wide variety of food options, I think I enjoyed being around my friends the most.

Whether we were attending classes, pulling all-nighters for assessments, playing sports, or exploring Malaysia, my friends were always there with me. Looking back at my three years, they made every moment memorable.

What is your biggest career goal, or what is the difference you’d like to make?

After getting some good experience as a software engineer/project manager, I eventually want to start my own tech company to make software solutions that solve big, real-world problems.
