Why did you decide to pursue the Master of Business Information Systems (MBIS)?

I wanted to expand my knowledge in the field of IT and the application of IT to businesses, and this course was the perfect fit. Furthermore, the option of selecting the research path in the final year of the program was intriguing to me, as it meant that I could focus on a thesis topic that I was interested in and perform extensive research on it.

How have your studies helped to prepare you for the working world?

Many of the units taught throughout the course contain both theoretical and practical elements, demonstrating how one can apply the lessons learnt to real-world situations. This has helped me in bridging the gap between academic experiences and professional experiences, easily transferring the knowledge from the classes to the working world.

What did you like best about your studies here? What were the most challenging aspects and how did you overcome them?

I like that the quality of education here in Monash is of very high standards, the course structure is comprehensive and the units are of sufficient depth, and it has equipped me well enough to perform better at my workplace. I would say the most challenging aspect is the need to balance my day job and this part-time study, as the assignments, exams and research thesis can be overwhelming at times, more so when combined with the stress of a full-time day job. Nevertheless, these are challenges that I overcame by having a positive outlook and putting the right goal in mind, progressively tackling each hurdle.

You received the Best Student Award for MBIS. How did that feel?

I am honoured to be the recipient of this award, at the same time, I am very grateful for the guidance and support I received from all of my amazing lecturers, they were truly instrumental in my success, this award is dedicated to them.

What did you enjoy most about your student life?

There were always student activities and university events happening throughout the year, many of which were open to students from all schools to participate. These events served to improve the student’s social skills or provide valuable industry exposure to students, and most importantly, they were usually very fun too!

What are your future career goals?

Embracing Monash’s motto of “Ancora Imparo”, my goal is to keep learning, both at work and off-work. Career-wise, I hope to be increasingly involved in the global data science community, participating in more data related research and projects – ultimately using more data to create a better and more efficient world, one step at a time.
