If you’re currently working, please tell us about your role in your organisation.

I am pursuing my PhD in Artificial Intelligence at Monash University, where I am actively engaged in groundbreaking research while also serving as a teaching associate, sharing my expertise in the field vision with the next generation of computer scientists. In addition as the founder of at Synapse AI Labs, my role involves spearheading the development of our flagship product, Kommon Poll, which leverages advanced machine learning techniques to analyze keyword performance across various online media platforms. My role extends beyond technical responsibilities to encompass strategic leadership, fostering partnerships, and overall management of the organization.

Please tell us briefly about your Honours research.

My Honours research at Monash University delved into exploring novel approaches in computer vision, particularly focusing on enhancing the recognition and analysis of micro-expressions. This research laid the foundation for my subsequent work in artificial intelligence and deep learning including my current work on micro-expressions in child learning behaviour as part of my PhD research.

How have your studies at Monash Malaysia helped to prepare you for the working world?

My studies at Monash Malaysia provided me with a solid foundation in computer science and equipped me with essential skills and knowledge relevant to the working world. The rigorous curriculum, combined with opportunities for practical application and research projects, prepared me to tackle real-world challenges in the field of AI and data science.

What type of opportunities did you participate in at Monash? (E.g. student exchange, clubs and societies, field trips, conferences, competitions, internships, etc.)

During my time at Monash, I actively participated in various opportunities aimed at broadening my horizons and enhancing my skill set. As part of the Engineering and IT Leadership Program, I gained valuable leadership training and experience. I also presented my Honours research at the International Conference of Undergraduate Research, and a resulting paper has been accepted (pending publication) in the Neural Computing and Applications journal. Additionally, I participated in many international student events, faculty gatherings, and hackathons, all of which enriched my student experience and broadened my perspectives

What did you enjoy most about your student life at Monash? 

What I enjoyed most about my student life at Monash was the vibrant and diverse community, where I had the opportunity to interact with peers and mentors from different backgrounds and cultures. The supportive environment, coupled with the commitment to academic excellence and the opportunity to engage with inspiring educators greatly enhanced my learning experience and contributed to my academic and professional growth.

What is your biggest career goal, or what is the difference you’d like to make?

My biggest career goal is to continue driving innovation in the field of artificial intelligence and data science, with a focus on creating impactful solutions that positively impact society. I aspire to leverage technology to empower individuals and organizations, ultimately contributing to the advancement and ethical deployment of AI for the betterment of humanity.
