General Studies Orientation Module

We hope that you've been having an informative and enlightening Orientation so far. As you may be aware, as a student currently enrolled in a Malaysian-based University, you are required by the Ministry of Higher Education to complete a series of units known as "General Studies" prior to graduation. In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, we have made the decision to permanently deliver all of our General Studies units online!!! This has some benefits for you as you can now complete many of these units at your own pace and will no longer have to attend lectures for General Studies.

Please complete our General Studies Orientation module to find out more!!! Clicking on this link will launch the GS Orientation Module in a new window. Please make sure you have your pop-up blockers turned off or the module will not work.

Enrolment FAQ

How do I enrol in General Studies?

To successfully complete one of your General Studies units, you need to make sure that you are already enrolled in them first. How do you enroll? Well, the same as you would for any other unit!

Just log into your Web Enrolment System (WES), and choose your General Studies unit from the list of available sessions.

*Important note for October 2021 intake students.

All GS U1 Units will only be offered in Semester 1 and Semester 2 of the academic teaching calendar of the year.

The next best enrolment for GS U1 Units would be in Semester 1, 2022.

Do enrol for GS U1 units via WES during the re-enrolment period for next year which begins on 11 October 2021 - 26 November 2021.

What are the implications of my performance in General Studies on my degree?

Simply put, none. Although it is compulsory for you to pass these units, your General Studies grades are not included in the calculation of your overall GPA.

However, if you have done well in these units and would like to have them reflected in your academic transcript, you can put in a request to have them included prior to your graduation.

Under what circumstances can I apply for an exemption?

As a rule of thumb, you can only obtain an exemption from General Studies if:

  1. You are a local student who have already scored a minimum Credit “C” for your SPM Bahasa Melayu (only applicable for MPU 3212 National Language A).
  2. You have already completed your General Studies requirements at another institution (applicable for all General Studies units)

Eligible exemptions for MPU 3212 National Language A will be processed upon admission to Monash University Malaysia, while exemptions for other units can be handled on a case-by-case basis by your respective School's Education Management Offices.

Please explore our site for more information on General Studies, or visit your respective School’s Education Management Office.
