Thinking Climate: Perception of Climate Change in Malaysia
View

A/Prof David Holmes presents at a workshop organised by the MCCCRH Malaysia Node, May 2022
The node’s inaugural project is a survey of Malaysians' attitudes towards climate change and their sources of information about climate change. To establish a baseline understanding of Malaysians' attitudes towards climate change and climate change news. This is important for effective communication of climate change and its impacts.
Malaysia National Survey on Climate Change Concern, Behaviour, And Media Attitude
This research was conducted in Malaysia. The report documents the findings of a survey of 1063 Malaysians. The aim of the study was to understand levels of concern and action on climate change in Malaysia.
It is the first time a survey as such has been conducted in Malaysia to gauge insight into:
- policy support, belief and motivation
- individual action and willingness to change
- media preference and trust
- Malaysian response to climate change and climate change policy.
The survey provides strong national and regional level snapshots relevant to a range of policy areas and establishes a baseline for future comparisons of community attitudes to climate change.
Developing climate literacy in children | MCCCRH X IDEAS International School

Highlighting a unique partnership between the Monash Climate Change Communication Research Hub Malaysia Node (MCCCRH) at Monash University Malaysia and IDEAS School, a refugee school in Kuala Lumpur. Together, they’re fostering climate literacy and awareness among children in Malaysia.
Through this collaboration, MCCCRH has supported the development of the Climate Action Module at IDEAS School. As IDEAS prepares to move to a larger campus, students in this video share their climate insights and the eco-friendly initiatives their new school is adopting.
This inspiring journey was also featured at COP29 during the session "Advancing Climate Literacy to Shape Sustainable Healthcare". Co-organised by MCCCRH and global partners, the session emphasised the importance of integrating climate literacy from childhood through adulthood and into professional fields like sustainable healthcare.
