Prof. Chong Meng Nan, Director of CNZT, recently featured as a panellist in the recent ASEAN-Australia Education Dialogue 2025 in George Town, Penang.
The ASEAN-Australia Education Dialogue is a track 2 diplomacy platform that strengthens Australia’s education and training relationship with key stakeholders in the ASEAN region, including the ASEAN University Network (AUN). Prof. Chong joined other distinguished members (Dr. Faizal Baharum, Universiti Sains Malaysia; Prof. Raymond Tan, De La Salle University; Dr. Brodie Beales, University of Newcastle) in the panel discussion titled “Equitable and Sustainable Strategies for the Energy Transition to Net Zero - Australia and in ASEAN’s Mining and Energy Sectors”, chaired by Prof. Jennifer Boddy (Griffitih University).
In the panel discussion, Prof. Chong spoke about the current initiatives being done by CNZT to champion sustainability beyond conventional research, which include new professional courses with emphasis on energy transition and net-zero technology areas, as well as promoting a whole-of-Centre approach to train the next generation of researchers in ground breaking research. He also highlights the need for a multidisciplinary approach towards research and education, as the mitigating climate change through net-zero adoption cannot be addressed by any single faculty or agency alone.
As a Centre dedicated to provide thought leadership on national and regional net-zero issues, we are grateful for the opportunity for our Director to be platformed and contribute to the broader discussions on equitable energy transition in ASEAN and Australia.
