MMPA Pharmacy Career Transition Program 2023

MMPA conducted the very first mentoring program during the semester break (26 June 2023 to 23 July 2023). This program aims to promote the engagement between the students and the alumni, for the students to learn about fundamental and transferable soft skills required in the real-life working environment as a pharmacist.

Under the guidance of alumni mentors, our mentees (ranging from Year 2 to Year 4 students) navigated through numerous case scenarios in which the four core skills a pharmacist should possess were cultivated throughout four of the weekly sessions. Each mentor brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to guide the mentees in their personal and professional growth. MMPA committee members (including President, Tan Oi Jin) acted as group facilitators for the weekly sessions, ensuring the skill-based case stems were clear while observing project presentation progress updates.

At the end of the program, all teams virtually presented their healthcare innovation initiatives to improve diabetic medication adherence in different settings. As the lead of the program, Sean Liew delivered the opening remarks for the grand finale. We were amazed by the level of dedication and creativity shown by all the groups, with ideas far surpassing all expectations. Group 5 (Sugar Crush) emerged as the Best Group Solution, going home with the grand prize while Group 3 (Smart Metformin and Med Companion) secured the Best Innovative Solution prize.

We would like to thank the alumni mentors and the students for their enthusiasm and commitment in making this program a success. We wish all mentees the best of luck for their future endeavors. Hope to see you again in future MMPA events!
