Monash's Global Discovery Program (GDP)

Monash University is renowned for its prestigious student mobility programs, including the International Exchange Program (IE), Global Intercampus Program (GIP), and Monash Global Campus Intensives (MGCI). But did you know that we have another outstanding opportunity for our adventurous students?

Set in the heart of the glamorous New York City, the Global Discovery Program (GDP) offers students a once-in-a-lifetime chance to broaden their minds, learn from influential alumni based in New York City, and meet key corporate decision-makers and leaders—all within a two-week timeframe.

What makes the GDP truly exceptional is its award-winning immersive study tour format. The program boasts a highly competitive selection process, and the best part is that Monash University covers accommodation and travel expenses for each student. With only 10 students chosen each year from Monash University Australia (MUA) and Monash University Malaysia (MUM), this opportunity is truly exclusive. Additionally, MUM students selected for the program are eligible for an incredible RM6,000 Monash travel grant!

Aligned with Impact 2030, this year's GDP theme focuses on the solutions to mobilise local communities for global impact. Applicants were required to submit an essay and video addressing this theme, and we are proud to announce that Tze Ting Yong, a bright student from the School of Pharmacy at MUM, has been selected to participate in this year's GDP. Interestingly, this is Tze Ting's second opportunity for a student mobility program. She was previously among the top 5 Pharmacy students selected for the Global Intercampus Program (GIP) at Monash University Australia, Parkville campus in Semester 2, 2022.

During a recent lunch meeting with Tze Ting, Syahirah Azmi, a staff member from Monash Abroad, had the pleasure of sharing her own experiences of studying in the United States and offered her guidance for her upcoming journey. Tze Ting, currently in her third year of the Pharmacy program, has a keen interest in public health and the use of technology to promote health literacy. Her decision to apply for the GDP stems from her desire to broaden her perspective beyond the healthcare field. She envisions the program as an opportunity for collaboration and exploration of the intersection between technology and healthcare.

Through the GDP, Tze Ting hopes to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds, gain insights from experienced alumni, expand her professional network, and drive positive change. We wholeheartedly wish Tze Ting the best as she embarks on this incredible journey at the end of this month. We eagerly anticipate her testimonials and look forward to seeing more MUM students seize this amazing opportunity in the next round of GDP!
