New to teaching at Monash Malaysia?

As outlined in your employment contract, you are required to complete the Higher Education @ MUM Program. Additionally, the Education @ MUM Induction is offered as a supplementary program to help you transition into your new role. We highly encourage you to attend the induction session to support your onboarding process.

Note: The Education @ MUM Induction and Higher Education @ MUM Program are separate from your school's internal induction program(s). Attendance in your school's programs is not transferable and does not exempt you from PDP compliance requirements.

Inclusive Education Practice [2 hours]

This is the only self-paced module in this series that counts towards your PDP academic development requirements. Starting in 2025, the university has placed a strong emphasis on promoting inclusivity in education. Explore the principles and framework of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to incorporate them into your teaching.

I have completed my school’s internal induction program(s). Can I request an exemption from the Education @ MUM Induction or the Higher Education @ MUM program?
No. The Education @ MUM Induction and Higher Education @ MUM Program are separate from your school's internal induction program(s). Attendance in your school's programs is not transferable and does not exempt you from PDP compliance requirements.
I have attended a training or workshop, how do I know if this is counted towards my PDP academic development requirements?
Sessions or activities that qualify as academic development modules counting towards PDP requirements will be explicitly indicated on the myDevelopment course description (update in progress) with the following statement:
Generally, and unless specified otherwise, only sessions from Education Excellence and Education and Training Academy qualify.
Do self-paced modules count towards my PDP academic development requirements?
As of 2025, Education Excellence's self-paced modules DO NOT qualify as Monash Malaysia PDP academic development modules. They are provided as solely as supplementary resources, except for the Inclusive Education Practice module, which counts towards PDP requirements.
Effective 2025, the following equivalencies apply:
- Academic development sessions lasting two (2) hours or more are equivalent to one (1) academic development module in the PDP.
- Full-day programs of at least seven (7) hours are equivalent to two (2) academic development modules in the PDP.
- Sessions shorter than two (2) hours do not qualify as an academic development module in the PDP.
- Unless specified otherwise, these equivalencies apply to all sessions and programs facilitated by Education Excellence and the Education and Training Academy.
- Recognised professional learning activities offered by Monash Education Academy are also recognised towards the PDP module requirements. Activities worth three (3) points are equivalent to one (1) PDP module, while activities worth six (6) points are equivalent to two (2) PDP modules.
- Approved school-based academic development modules may also be recognised towards the PDP module requirements. Schools may submit their proposals for recognition using the training module recognition form.
- Significant contributions by staff to strategic projects that advance the university’s learning and teaching initiatives may also be recognised. Participation in these projects will be by invitation, and recognition towards the PDP module requirement will be determined on a case-by-case basis, considering the time commitment and nature of the work involved.
