For Reviewees
This section contains the guidelines and resources for formative or summative (promotion/probation) for reviewees.
1. Selecting appropriate observation session
Selecting the right session for observation is an important decision. Take some time to consider how your chosen session will address each of the review criteria.
The four broad areas being observed in a review are:
- Design and plan for learning
- Teaching and Supporting Learning
- Effective learning environments and student support
- Assessment and provision of feedback
Three out of the four of these areas focus on your engagement with the students and the interaction among the students. Therefore, try to pick a session that highlights your active and inclusive teaching and learning activities.
2. Requesting a review
All review requests must be made through the Monash Peer Review portal PeerView.
- face to face in person: for face-to-face sessions OR hybrid sessions held on campus
- real-time online (synchronous): for live Zoom sessions with the students
Post-dated recorded classes or any other asynchronous teaching activities cannot be used for peer review.
Follow the guides below for formative or summative review-specific instructions.
- A formative review should be requested if you require collegial feedback. Its aim is to support professional growth.
3. Pre-review meeting
It is recommended that both the participant and reviewer have a purposeful conversation about the participant’s teaching intentions and practice. This conversation may last around 30-45 minutes.
