Johor Bahru Clinical School’s new library opens
On 17 April 2018, Library staff at the Clinical School campus unveiled the new Clinical School Library (CSL) at Monash 1 building to the Johor Bahru campus. In the week preceding the soft opening of the Library, contractors, Library, ITS and FMD staff from Monash Sunway campus and Johor Bahru campus joined hands to complete outstanding work, re-shelve the collections, run final technical checks and clean the facilities before the big day. With Semester 1 in full swing, students and academic staff had been eagerly awaiting the opening of the new space, which brings the Clinical School Library at the heart of the Johor Bahru campus and re-positioning it as the campus learning hub, central to all Clinical School’s research and learning activities.

The relocation of the Library to Monash 1 has been integral to the Library and Learning Commons’ strategy to professionalize the management of the library operation and increase the potential and opportunities for CSL to engage with students and academic staff.
While of a more modest size than its sister library at the Sunway campus, CSL space offers a contemporary, user-friendly, technology-supported learning environment that mirrors the students’ experience at Sunway campus, through an integrated suite of resources, programs and services. The new Library’s features include a cosy lounge, a technology-enabled discussion room, two collaborative pods, a dedicated computer zone and an extensive reading area, all of which bring the capacity of the library to 60 seats while creatively espousing the circular shape of Monash 1. The final touch-ups and signage of the Library should be completed by end of May 2018.

The formal opening of the Clinical School Library will take place in Semester 2, 2018.
With the appointment of a seasoned librarian to manage the Clinical School Library earlier in March 2018, the Library is now in a stronger position to serve Johor Bahru’s vibrant academic and research community and meet student needs through its provision of learning space, information services and research skills programs.
