Creating impact through trailblazing research
The Library and Learning Commons (LLC) organised its inaugural exhibition on the theme “Trailblazing Research @ Monash Malaysia” from 15th October to 1st November 2019.
The exhibition showcased a collection of 27 high-impact research outputs, providing visitors with a unique glimpse of the ground breaking research led by the University, and highlighting the contribution by Monash Malaysia researchers in aiming to improve local communities and build the nation and beyond.
The exhibition, launched and officiated by Professor Andrew Walker, President and Pro Vice-Chancellor, Monash University Malaysia, was designed as an interactive forum to bring together thought leaders and experts in the field of education and industry to share their perspectives on the Malaysian innovation ecosystem, its challenges and its opportunities.
Key takeaway points from the moderated discussion panel included:
YM Tengku Datuk Dr. Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen Tengku Ibrahim, Vice President of Academy of Sciences Malaysia, who challenged the audience about the current pace of changes in the innovation landscape, reinforced that it was time for Malaysia to embrace the post-industrial economy through nurturing social transformation and building a knowledge-based society;
Professor Deborah Hall, Vice-Provost-Research and Knowledge Exchange at University of Nottingham Malaysia, highlighted the importance for interdisciplinary collaboration between industry players and universities in order to yield sustainable relationships and positive engagements to advance translational research;
Mr Jacob Lee Chor Kok, Chairman of the Selangor Branch, Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers, echoed the panellists’ shared views that Malaysia can foster a sustainable innovation ecosystem by breaking the existing silos between research stakeholders, both public and private.
The exhibition attracted over 280 visitors from the University (of which more than 50% students) and from the general public.
