The Research Talk Series for 2026 follows with the fourth research talk, with our esteemed speaker Dr. Syafiq Asnawi from the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences (JCSMHS) presenting an insightful research talk titled "From Venom to Value: How Proteomics is Transforming Snakebite Treatment and Cancer Therapy" This talk is organized by the Library, in collaboration with Research, Innovation and Enterprise (RIE) and the Early Career Academic Network (ECAN).
This research provides meaningful insights into snake venom, a complex biochemical system that causes severe disease but also holds immense therapeutic promise. Modern proteomics research using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) decodes snake venom at the molecular level, identifying and quantifying key toxin families, enabling improved antivenom development and aiding the discovery of novel bioactive compounds with anticancer properties. Case studies of previous snakebite research complement this research, confirming how molecular profiling can transform “poison” into a potential medicine.
