*Collaborative Workshop

*AI Starts Here: Machine Learning for Absolute Beginners - Dr. Mogana (in collaboration with School of Business)

About the workshop:
Machine learning is the foundation of artificial intelligence, it’s the part that allows computers to learn from data instead of being explicitly programmed. In this beginner-friendly session, you’ll explore how machine learning powers everyday AI applications like recommendations, predictions, and smart automation, all explained in clear, simple language. Focusing on one core idea, how machines learn patterns from examples, you’ll see how data is used to train models that can make decisions or forecasts. No advanced math or coding experience is required; the goal is to build a strong conceptual understanding of how machine learning works and why it sits at the heart of modern AI.

*An Introduction to Data Analytics and Programming in R: Moving up from Excel - Dr. Quek Shio Gai & Prof. Dr. Ganeshsree Selvachandran (in collaboration with School of Business)

About the workshop:
This two-hour workshop is primarily targeted for students/professionals, who are already familiar with Excel, and wish to acquire the essential skills of data analysis and programming in R to increase their productivity at research/work. Through easy-to-follow hands-on activities, participants will be exposed to the various commonly-used operations in data analytics that can be performed much more efficiently in R than in Excel, which includes organization, classification and extraction of data. In addition, participants will also be learning the basics of programming in R, which proves to be an indispensable tool at automating many computational tasks at hand.

*From Excel to Python, Part II: Automate, Scale, and Analyze Like a Pro - Dr. Mogana (in collaboration with School of Business)

About the workshop:
This 4-hour advanced, hands-on workshop is designed for professionals who already know the Python and pandas basics and want to move beyond manual analysis into powerful, automated workflows. Participants will learn how to build reusable data pipelines, work with multi-file and large datasets, perform advanced joins and aggregations, write custom functions, and create publication-ready visualizations. The session also introduces automation techniques, error handling, and performance optimization, showing how Python can replace complex Excel models, fragile formulas, and repetitive reporting tasks. By the end of the workshop, attendees will be able to design end-to-end data solutions that scale, run reliably, and save hours of work every week.
