Summer Units
Summer semester is a great option for current students looking to accelerate their course progression.
The teaching period is usually shorter and more condensed than a standard semester, but the overall class hours remain the same. For example, instead of attending three hours of class per week for 12 weeks, you might have all-day classes for a week (this can vary between units).
The Summer semester is an intensive teaching periods that allow students to fast-track their studies, catch up on missed units, or explore electives outside of the regular semester.
The School of Pathways and Immersion is offering the following units in Summer:
Summer 2026
- AMU2455 Community and the environment in Malaysia
- AMU3011 Sustainability, the environment and society
Before applying for Summer units, please ensure you have reviewed the following:
- Requirements and eligibility - confirm that you are eligible to take the unit(s).
- Course map - ensure you have not exceeded the maximum number of elective units.
- Prerequisite requirements - ensure you meet the prerequisites for the unit(s) you plan to enrol in.
- Class schedule - check the Summer timetable to avoid clashes with your plans.
- Intensive format - note that these units are taught over a shorter period but require the same number of contact hours.
- School approval - consult with your School(s) before enrolling.

AMU2455 Community and the environment in Malaysia
This intensive elective study unit teaches students to critically evaluate human impact on the environment, while also developing skills in project management and communications.
By engaging with environmental stakeholders through discussion and activities, students contextualize global challenges that affect everyday Malaysians, specifically related to addressing actions contributing to climate change, and evaluating their effects on achieving thriving communities.

Completed at least 48 credit points and a WAM of 50 (restricted for Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine and Bachelor of Pharmacy)

AMU3011 Sustainability, the environment and society
This unit is a unique summer internship opportunity for you to work closely with mentors from grassroots environmental groups that are actively working to address issues around over-development and environmental degradation.
For this elective, you will work in interdisciplinary groups to learn from your on-ground, in-field experiences while also contributing to the important work these groups do through your assessment outputs.
The unit is 8 weeks long across summer and is mainly self-directed, with an emphasis on group work, developing project management and communications skills.

Completed at least 96 credit points of study in any discipline (restricted for Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine and Bachelor of Pharmacy)
