Welcome to the Library, Semester 1, 2018

Welcome Congratulations to all and a warm welcome to Monash University Malaysia Library!

During the summer break, a number of exciting developments have taken place in the Library to enhance your experience and make your academic journey at Monash worthwhile.

Throughout 2017, we actively pursued the implementation of the Library Interim Space Plan, resulting in further transforming the physical library environment and bringing the library seating capacity to 1206 seats. Refurbishments worth mentioning include the extension of the Quiet Zone and the creation of laptop zones.  Following an extensive evaluation of print collections, we have weeded out outdated materials and merged the Reserve Collection with the Open Shelf Collections in order to further facilitate access to the library collections. The Monash Malaysia print collection is thus more relevant and accessible.

If you are new to Monash Malaysia, feel comfortable asking Library staff at the Information Services counter to help you search and locate books, use the printing facilities and learn more about the Library’s comprehensive collections of e-resources.

If you missed your School’s Orientation or having information overload, I invite you to watch the new online tutorial “Finding Books in the Library” which has been launched just in time for Orientation Week. It is accessible anywhere and anytime at the click of your mouse!!

The Library is currently working on several refurbishment projects to address student’s feedback and concerns raised in the Library Insync survey and I-Graduate survey 2017.

  • The Reserve & Multimedia area will be transformed into 6 discussion rooms bookable via LIBCAL, the Library’s online booking system.
  • The creation of a Research & Learning point at Level 3 will offer walk-in consultations for any questions students may have about researching an assignment and/or writing a paper. The new Research and Learning point will be staffed by Library staff around library peak times
  • The repurposing of the open shelf area will further expand the study space on Level 3, while providing a fresher look and contemporary study environment.

In an effort to continuously improve our service, I am also pleased to introduce the following initiatives:

Orientation week: It’s all about the experience!

Don’t miss the Library’s brand new Orientation video which will be launched on the first day of the Orientation Week! This video was produced by students for students and will take you on an entertaining interactive tour of the Library.

Library extended hours on week-ends

Effective 26 February 2018, the library expansion (Learn / Contemplate/ Create / Engage) on 3rd floor will be open until 10.00pm on weekends to align with week days opening hours. The Library will pursue previous years’ arrangement for SWOT vacation period and provide 24/7 access to the users.
