Nadiah Ahmad is the Deputy Head of School (Immersive Education), where she coordinates, executes and consults on field-based academic units. She is also aligned with the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) South-South Migration, Inequality and Development Hub, funded by the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). Her research for this project evaluates the gendered experiences of Nepali migrant workers in Malaysia.

Her prior work experience in academia includes tutoring for Communications and Global Studies units at Monash University Malaysia's School of Arts and Social Sciences. She was also a media practitioner at PETRONAS and a publicist at a local brand agency before resuming her postgraduate studies.

She completed her PhD at Monash University Malaysia in 2021. Her thesis explored the efficacy of gender mainstreaming strategies, embedded in Indonesian rural participatory development programs. Nadiah obtained her Master of Arts from Universiteit Leiden in 2014.

Research  

Nadiah’s general research interests include the critical evaluation of social inequalities and justice; policy processes and impact; as well as Southeast Asian contemporary political histories and governance. Her preferred research field of interest is critical development studies in the Southeast Asian context.
