SEACO has extensive experience hosting international students, researchers and academic groups from universities around the world. Through our long-established research platform and strong partnerships with local communities, we provide immersive field-based learning experiences that combine academic excellence with meaningful community engagement.
Over the years, SEACO has supported a wide range of student programmes, including the Monash University Australia Field Methods in Anthropology and International Development (FMA) programme, where students undertake community-based field research in Malaysia. We welcome opportunities to collaborate with universities and institutions seeking authentic field learning experiences in Southeast Asia.
Our programmes are tailored to the needs of each institution and may include:
- Field research training in qualitative, ethnographic and mixed-methods research.
- Public and Community Engagement (PCE) training, introducing students to ethical, respectful and culturally appropriate approaches to working with communities.
- Community immersion and field visits, providing opportunities to engage with local communities, community leaders and key stakeholders.
- Research ethics and responsible conduct, including informed consent, cultural sensitivity and community-centred research practices.
- Language and cultural orientation, helping students develop confidence and understanding before entering the field.
- Hands-on fieldwork experience, supported by experienced researchers and SEACO's field operations team.
- Data analysis and reflection workshops, enabling students to interpret findings, reflect on their experiences and communicate research outcomes effectively.
- Exposure to Malaysia's health, social and development landscape, offering valuable insights into the realities and complexities of conducting research in diverse community settings.
SEACO works closely with academic partners to design programmes that align with learning outcomes while ensuring research activities are conducted responsibly, safely and in partnership with local communities. Our experienced multidisciplinary team provides end-to-end support, from programme planning and logistics to field supervision, community engagement and student mentoring.
