SEACO joins Diabetes Awareness Campaign
November is that time of year when “all eyes are on diabetes”, with it being National Diabetes Awareness Month. Diabetes is a huge and growing burden and many people live with type 2 diabetes for a long period of time without being aware of their condition. Poor management of nutrition and physical inactivity often leads to type-2 diabetes. On 20 November 2016, Lions Clubs International District 308B1 Malaysia organised a “Diabetes Awareness Campaign” at Sungai Kapeh, Segamat. SEACO was invited to conduct the Diabetes Screening for the participants. Besides screening, activities such as aerobics, zumba, walking and cycling were also held to encourage participants to stay active for a healthy life. SEACO successfully performed screening for 180 people and about 5% of the participants were identified to have risk factors for diabetes. Early detection and timely management for type 2 diabetes is important to modify its course and reduce the risk of complications.
