Stakeholders’ meeting for the upcoming breast cancer project in SEACO

A stakeholders’ meeting for the upcoming breast cancer project was held at the SEACO office on 26 April 2017. The project aims to develop a sustainable and culturally acceptable intervention to enhance early detection of breast cancer among women in the community. The meeting was conducted as a part of SEACO’s community engagement process in getting the community’s and other stakeholder’s opinion in the planning and implementation of the project. Doctors from Hospital Segamat, B-Care Segamat, nursing staff from District health office, members of the Breast Cancer Support Society and Community Engagement Committee members attended the meeting. Prof. Pascale Allotey and Dr. Devi Mohan from SEACO, the lead investigators from Monash University introduced the project to the group. Prof. Dr. Nur Aishah binti Mohd Taib, consultant breast surgeon from UMMC, who is also the UMMC lead for the project, shared her research experience on delayed breast cancer presentation in Malaysia. The group also discussed on the focus areas of the project, and possible areas of contributions by different stakeholders. The various stakeholders offered their full support in the implementation of the project. The field-level implementation of the project is expected to start by the end of May 2017.
