South East Asia Community Observatory (SEACO), School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia – Gerak Mesra Labis Zone Program 1-4, 2024

On November 26, 2024, the vibrant Labis JKKK Basketball Hall became the gathering place for an exciting and impactful event—the Gerak Mesra Labis Zone Program 1-4, 2024. Organized by the Labis District Council, this initiative received an overwhelmingly positive response from the local community, with hundreds of residents coming together to participate in a day dedicated to promoting health, wellness, and community engagement.

The South East Asia Community Observatory (SEACO), School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia, was deeply honored to be one of the invited partners for this important event. Our involvement allowed us to contribute directly to the health and well-being of the local community, and we are proud to have played a role in making this initiative a resounding success.

The event kicked off with a warm and inspiring opening ceremony, graciously led by the Chairman of the Labis District Council, Tuan Sulaiman bin Ismail. His presence and heartfelt words emphasized the importance of community-driven initiatives and the role of collaboration in improving public health. Tuan Sulaiman’s leadership set a positive tone for the day, reinforcing the collective responsibility we share in fostering a healthier, more informed society.

Throughout the day, SEACO, Monash University Malaysia, provided a variety of free health services to the attendees. These services included essential Height & Weight Measurements, Blood Pressure Checks, Blood Glucose Testing, and Body Composition Monitoring. These health screenings were carefully designed to promote awareness of common health issues such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity, while also encouraging the adoption of healthy lifestyle choices.

Participants were eager to take advantage of the opportunity to check their health status, and our dedicated team was on hand to guide them through the screening process. Many residents were particularly interested in the Body Composition Monitoring, which provided valuable insights into their muscle mass, body fat percentage, and overall metabolic health. This service was not only informative but also served as a tool for individuals to make more informed decisions about their fitness and nutrition.

The program was a great success in fostering awareness about the importance of early health screenings and preventive care. In addition to the screenings, attendees were provided with useful information on how to manage stress, improve their diet, and stay active to prevent the onset of chronic diseases. It was heartwarming to see the positive feedback from the community, with many residents expressing their gratitude for the opportunity to receive such vital health services free of charge.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the Labis District Council for their kind invitation to SEACO Monash University Malaysia. It was an incredible honor to work alongside such a dedicated team of professionals, volunteers, and local leaders who shared our commitment to improving community health. We are excited about the potential for future collaborations and look forward to building on the success of this event to create lasting positive change in the Labis community.

We hope that the Gerak Mesra Labis Zone Program continues to thrive in the years to come, and we remain committed to contributing to the health and well-being of the residents of Labis through ongoing partnerships and community-based initiatives. Together, we can foster a future where health and wellness are accessible to all.
