Field Methods in Anthropology and International Development ATS3248

Field Methods in Anthropology and International Development ATS3248 involves an international field trip to Monash University, Malaysia, and provides students with formal and applied training in qualitative and ethnographic field research methods. The unit consists of a two-week (16-day, including two travel days) stay in Malaysia. This includes a field site visit in SEACO Segamat, in which students will work with the Australian-based unit coordinators and local staff members from the School of Arts and Social Sciences (Monash Malaysia) and the South East Asian Community Observatory (SEACO) to conduct small-scale research projects, gather data in the field, analyse, present, and write up their findings.

On November 24, 2022, all these young and bright students safely arrived at SEACO, Segamat. They had an introduction and booth presentation on SEACO research projects. What is most interesting is that they learned the Malay language and started introducing themselves in Malay!
