Overview

The annual CSJB (Clinical School Johor Bahru) Research Week is integral to the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences' commitment to support research activities among our medical students. Now in its thirteenth year, we have decided to broaden the scope of this platform in 2025 to showcase all forms of scholarly projects hence the change of name to the CSJB Scholarly Week.

This year, we would like to invite Year 5 MD students to present their projects especially those which are conducted under the “Scholarly Intensive Placement” – this may fall under the Education, Professional Practice or Research pillars. We also welcome the participation of students from the clinical years who have projects that fulfil the inclusion criteria.

We aim to foster a vibrant community of scholars by encouraging innovative ideas, critical discussions, collaborative work and the dissemination of findings in addition to helping students develop crucial presentation skills. Ultimately, we hope to advance scholarly work among clinical year students at the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Join us at the 13th CSJB Scholarly Week as we showcase the achievements of our medical students and celebrate their work to inform and improve healthcare. Do mark your calendars and prepare for an enriching and inspiring event at the Clinical School Johor Bahru.

Categories

Participation is open to all JCSMHS clinical year medical students who are supervised by at least one academic staff from Monash University, other academic institutions or clinical staff from the Ministry of Health (e.g. from Hospital Sultanah Aminah Johor Bahru). Students are invited to submit abstracts for the following categories:

Category A ― Professional Practice or Education

  • Audits, Educational material, Patient information, Website material, YouTube clip, Podcast, Mobile phone app, Infographic
  • To be considered, results (e.g. findings from an audit) or products (e.g. brochures, YouTube clips, websites, teaching material) must be available by the time of abstract submission.

Category B ― Review

  • Completed reviews in the form of scoping reviews, systematic reviews, meta-analyses or narrative reviews inclusive of results.

Category C ― Primary Research

  • Research projects inclusive of results/findings.

Category D ― Primary Research Proposal

  • Primary research proposal for which the ethics application has been lodged by the time of poster presentation. If your project has any preliminary results, please apply under category C. (Do note that we will not consider proposals for “reviews”)

Participation in the CSJB Scholarly Week involves a preliminary poster round followed by an oral presentation round. Participants whose abstracts have been accepted will first present their projects through an on-site poster display in Monash 1. A panel of esteemed judges will evaluate the posters based on the published criteria.

Following the poster round, a smaller number of projects will be shortlisted for the finale where the team’s representative will be invited to participate in an oral presentation (conducted in a hybrid format). This allows for an in-depth discussion of their scholarly work with a panel and fellow audience.

All student team members whose projects are presented at the poster round will receive a certificate from the school as a recognition for their participation. The abstract of your projects will also be published in our annual proceedings. Teams whose project was shortlisted for the finale will receive an additional token which will be announced later.
