Get to know Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine & Health Sciences

Established in 2005, JCSMHS has made significant advancements in education, research, and engagement.

JCSMHS commenced operations in  2005 with the first two cohorts of its Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) starting in Melbourne, while preparation for full operations in Malaysia was being completed.

In 2007, three cohorts of the MBBS students started Year One, Two and Three in Malaysia.   Years One and Two commenced their studies at JCSMHS in Sunway City, while Year 3 was based at the Clinical School Johor Bahru. In 2009, JCSMHS was fully operational, where all five cohorts of students from Years One to Five enrolled on the MBBS program in Malaysia.

In 2019, JCSMHS started offering the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (MD) program in tandem with Monash University in Australia. The MD program is the same as the one conducted in Australia, running concurrently in 3 campuses – Clayton, Malaysia and Gippsland – and has been accredited by the Australian Medical Council (AMC). This accreditation has provided an independent assessment of the quality medical education provided by Monash University Malaysia and will allow its graduates to practise in Australia and New Zealand without additional examinations.

JCSMHS will be  introducing the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) and the Master of Clinical Psychology in February 2026. To meet evolving educational needs, JCSHMS will continue to expand its range of courses in the coming years.

JCSMHS has grown significantly from an initial offering of the MBBS in 2005, and currently offers the following courses:
