The Monash Fledge Clinical Psychology and Counselling Centre provides accessible mental health care to the community. Services are delivered by trainees from the Master of Clinical Psychology and Master of Professional Counselling programs under the supervision of qualified clinicians. Individuals seeking support for personal or psychological concerns are encouraged to access the FLEDGE Centre, particularly those facing barriers to care.

The therapy sessions take place in person at Building 2, Level 7 of Monash University Malaysia.

Complete this Google Form to sign up. After the triage team pairs you up with a trainee, you will receive a confirmation via email.
After the triage team pairs you up with an available counselling or clinical psychology trainee, you will receive a confirmation via email. The trainees will be in touch with you to schedule a first session with them. If you do not hear from them, email us at fledge@monash.edu.
The trainee services at the Monash Fledge Centre are suitable for individuals who are looking for counselling or psychological support. These services are often a good option for people experiencing everyday emotional or psychological challenges such as stress, anxiety, relationship difficulties, grief, adjustment issues, low mood, or uncertainty about life and career direction.
Monash FLEDGE Centre is first and foremost a teaching clinic that serves as a training ground for future counsellors and clinical psychologists. The services are provided by Monash University Malaysia counselling and clinical psychology trainees who are currently in practicum training. The practicum counsellors are supervised by experienced and licensed mental health professionals.
As of May 2026, services are still free for clients, but we will be moving towards a low fee model.
We will do our best to reduce the possibility of dual relationships. Indicate on the sign up forms if you know anyone who might be in the program, we will do our level best to assign you to a trainee that is not your acquaintance.
A typical counselling session takes 60-90 minutes. The total number of sessions depends on individual needs. Punctuality is crucial as rooms are limited and sudden session extensions are not possible.
The first session will typically be an intake session that is 90 minutes long, while the subsequent sessions average around 60 minutes.
For the sake of clients’ wellbeing, we highly recommend that all clients sign-up and attend sessions on their own accord rather than being coerced or pressured by others to attend counselling. You may let them know about the availability of our services if they wish to talk to someone.
The counsellors and clinical psychology trainees are postgraduate students undergoing professional training. They are closely supervised by experienced and licensed counsellors and clinical psychologists to ensure all clients receive competent, appropriate and effective care.
FLEDGE Centre may not be the best fit for individuals who require urgent crisis intervention, intensive psychiatric care, or immediate medication management. People experiencing safety concerns, or emergencies are generally encouraged to seek specialised or emergency mental health services instead.
If you do not live in Malaysia, it is recommended that you seek counselling services in your country of residence. This is for risk management reasons as we do not have access to your local healthcare services for case escalation purposes.
Psychological services (assessment and therapy) for minors are available with the trainee clinical psychologists only.
All other clients need to be legally an adult (18 years old and above) to sign up, and they should ideally sign up for themselves willingly.
Currently, all counselling sessions and assessments are in-person and take place in the FLEDGE centre at Monash University Malaysia.
You can indicate your preferences in the sign-up sheet and we will do our best to match a best fit according to your needs. It is not a guarantee that you will get your preferred counsellor.
Your privacy and confidentiality are of the utmost importance. The trainee counsellors and clinical psychologists only discuss your case with their clinical supervisors and no information will be shared and discussed outside the session. Only the supervisors and the assigned therapists would know of your engagement with our services. However, confidentiality may not apply in certain risky or dangerous circumstances. More information will be provided, during your first session with the assigned practicum counsellor/ psychologist. You may ask for the identity of the clinicians' supervisors.
As the trainee counsellors/ psychologists are still in training, audio and video recording are necessary to protect you and ensure the students deliver quality services. Trainees also review the recording with their supervisors for their learning and development. The recordings will be locked and kept confidential, and will typically be deleted upon completion of the training process.
