BIM COVID-19 Screening Questions
In line with the Ministry of Health’s guidelines, we collaborated with Malaysian Federation of the Deaf to develop Malaysian Sign Language/ Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia (BIM) translations of the COVID-19 Screening Questions. This free-resource tool aims to assist healthcare providers communicate better with Deaf patients during COVID-19 screening/triaging. It comprises of categories on symptoms, travel history, prior participation in large gatherings and history taking on contact history. This will ensure that Deaf individuals have equitable access to COVID-19 screening measures in a meaningful and timely manner.
This project was inspired by a Deaf patient who was tested positive for COVID-19 and endured the 14 days in quarantine in a hospital.
This development of these videos were made possible with the help of Malaysian Federation of the Deaf, Malaysian Sign Language and Deaf Studies Association, and our students.
