The PhD in Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences may be undertaken in the principal areas of research offered by the faculty. These include anatomy, biochemistry and molecular biology, endocrinology, epidemiology and preventive medicine, general practice, medical education, medicine, microbiology, neuroendocrinology, paediatrics, pharmacology, physiology, psychological medicine, psychology, surgery, toxicology, rural health. Students will be required to conduct a prescribed program of research under direct supervision, which leads to the submission of a thesis.

The Master of Biomedical Science is a research degree. Candidature in a master's by research involves the independent investigation of a research problem that has been formulated by the candidate. It is expected that the research undertaken will make a significant contribution to the discipline in which the candidate is enrolled. Doctoral candidates are supported by a minimum of two supervisors throughout their candidature.

Biomedical science is an interdisciplinary area of study and includes aspects of anatomy, biochemistry, cell biology, clinical medicine, epidemiology, genetics, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, pharmacology and preventive medicine, and physiology.

Master of Professional Counselling

Course Overview

The Master of Professional Counselling in Monash University Malaysia is a skill-based course suited to those with an interest in counselling. It is taught by academics with extensive experience of working as professional counsellors/psychologists.

This course is designed to prepare students to become registered counsellors in settings such as community mental health, schools, health centers, workplaces, and in private practice. The course is also suitable for people already working in various professions who may wish to utilise counselling skills in roles such as teaching, social work and human resources.Students complete 252 hours of counselling practicum sessions on campus, after which they undertake 504 hours of clinical placements or internship outside. The students (i.e., trainee counsellors) recruit clients from the local communities to participate in their practicum sessions.

The course has received accreditation from Lembaga Kaunselor Malaysia (Malaysian Board of Counsellors), Australian Counselling Association, and the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia.
