BRIMS forms collaborative ties with the University of TOYAMA, Japan
The Brain Research Institute Monash University Sunway (BRIMS) at the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia has signed an Academic Exchange Agreement with the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, University of Toyama, Japan, to embark on a collaborative research project. Professor Ishwar S. Parhar, the Director of BRIMS remarked that with this agreement, both institutions will support the following academic exchange and research initiatives:
- Exchange of academic and technical staff
- Cooperative research
- Exchange of students
- Exchange of academic materials, publications, and information
- Other items subsequently agreed by both institutions

Several common research interests between the two institutions have been identified, in which they are related to functions of neuropeptides, non-visual photoreceptors, metal toxicity and circadian rhythmicity in the brain. As part of the on-going collaboration, University of Toyama has previously organized an International symposium “Recent Update in Research on the Brain and Behaviour” in 2015 and “Asian Network for Neuroscience“ in 2016. BRIMS academic staff also delivered lectures at these symposiums.
