CSJB Research Week 2019

August 2019

The seventh CSJB Research Week was held from 22 to 25 July 2019 as part of the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences’ (JCSMHS) continuous effort to promote research activities, sharing research outputs and ideas, and encouraging reflection on the research values among its medical students.

Similar to the preceding years, this program played a pivotal role in providing a platform for medical students to showcase and critically discuss their research projects.

This year’s Research Week saw research projects from various areas including dermatology, oncology, surgery, endocrinology, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatric, mental health, medicine, public health, medical education and ethics.

A series of five research workshops were conducted for internal and external participants by JCSMHS academics – Associate Professor Dr Rafidah Atan and Associate Professor Dr Nor’azim Mohd Yunos (Evidence-based Medicine), Dr Amutha Ramadas and Dr Jeevitha Mariapun (Systematic Review & Meta-analysis, Basic Statistics and Intermediate Statistics) and Dr Lee Learn Han (Top Tips on Publishing in Biomedical Research).

This year’s competition too had attracted 27 abstracts with four entries competing for the ‘Best Completed Research Project’ category, 16 entries for the ‘Best Research Proposal/Interim’ category and seven entries for the ‘3 Minute Thesis (3MT)’ by BMedSc (Hons) graduates.

Participants were required to present their posters for evaluation during poster rounds, from 22to 25 July 2019, followed by an oral presentation of their work during the Research Symposium on 25 August 2019 for the final evaluation.
