JCSMHS Senior Lecturer bags double awards at MSPP 2019

Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences is proud to celebrate Dr Mohd Farooq Shaikh’s achievement at the 33rd Scientific Meeting of Malaysian Society of Pharmacology and Physiology (MSPP) 2019, held on 15 and 16 July 2019.

A winner of two accolades, Dr Farooq bagged the MSPP Young Teacher's Award 2019 in Pharmacology and MSPP Young Researcher Award 2019.

The MSPP Young Teacher’s Award 2019 was awarded to Dr Farooq for his articulate delivery of lecture on ‘Opioids in Pain Management’, which was judged by a selected panel of experts in the field.

The MSPP Young Researcher Award 2019 also reflects Dr Farooq’s research capability as the award was accorded based on the number of publications and quality, and number of citations of published articles. The research recognition was also awarded based on Dr Farooq’s 20-minute presentation, evaluated by a panel of international experts that includes the event's keynote speaker, Roderick J Flower who is a distinguished pharmacologist and the author of the bestselling ‘Rang and Dale’s Pharmacology’.

When asked about his accomplishment, Dr Farooq shared, “I feel extremely delighted for the double-award win. This is only possible with the tremendous support from the School, my colleagues and students. I am extremely thankful to my wife and kids for moral support.”

Dr Mohd Farooq Shaikh is Senior Lecturer in Pharmacology at Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia. He is actively involved in neuropharmacological research and has won various awards for innovation in research such ITEX 2018, Pecipta 2017, Monash’s 2017 PVC award for ‘Excellence in Research’ and Malaysian Society of Neuroscience (MSN) ‘Best Publication Award 2017’. Currently, Dr Farooq and his team are working on epilepsy and Alzheimer’s disease related cognitive dysfunctions.
