Bridging academia and industry through applied research, engagement, and policymaking in financial technology. Supported by the Schools of Business and IT in Australia and Malaysia, the Fintech Impact Lab brings together researchers, students, and industry partners.

We advance fintech through research, executive education, and the dissemination of insights via white papers, policy briefs, and industry workshops. Our areas of focus include artificial intelligence, blockchain, digital payments, lending, wealth management, insurance, regulatory technology, and Islamic finance. By connecting academic rigour with practical application, we contribute to the development of future fintech professionals and the digital evolution of financial institutions. We address important global and regional issues such as financial inclusion, financial literacy, and sustainable economic growth, supporting Monash’s role in fintech innovation within the Asia-Pacific region.

The Fintech Impact Lab at Monash University conducts interdisciplinary research in financial technology and fosters collaboration across sectors. Our work addresses key areas including artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, digital payments, lending, wealth management, insurance, regulatory and supervisory technology, and Islamic fintech.
Our objective is to enhance financial inclusion, improve market efficiency and advance innovation within the financial system. The insights generated from our research aim to inform the strategies of product developers, service providers and policymakers. Ongoing and planned research projects include:
- Examining the impact of digital banks on financial inclusion and market competition
- Investigating the feasibility and design of wholesale Central Bank Digital Currencies for enhanced payments.
- Analysing fintech adoption and digital financial literacy among SMEs and underserved segments.
- Exploring use cases and regulatory implications of asset tokenisation.
- Developing Shari'ah-compliant, ethical and transparent AI for risk management in Islamic finance.
- Pioneering the use of blockchain for digital Sukuk issuance, focusing on transparency, fractionalisation and liquidity.
We actively seek engagement with industry leaders and regulatory bodies to ensure the relevance and rigour of our research. Our aim is to provide data-driven insights and support the development of informed policy.
The Fintech Impact Lab at Monash University is a driving force in fintech innovation, actively engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders to foster collaboration and shape the future of finance. Our engagement strategy focuses on building strong partnerships, sharing critical knowledge, and developing talent to accelerate the adoption and impact of financial technology.
Our key engagement activities include:
- Collaborative research and industry partnerships: We partner with private and public sector entities to conduct joint research, co-develop specialised training with industry leaders, undertake consulting projects, and create valuable internship opportunities for students.
- Knowledge sharing and ecosystem development: The Lab actively disseminates knowledge and fosters dialogue through workshops, seminars, roundtables, and impactful publications such as white papers and policy briefs. We also provide expert advice to support the development of a robust fintech ecosystem.
- Talent development and community outreach: We enrich our curriculum with industry insights through guest lectures and mentorship, and we are committed to enhancing digital financial literacy within SMEs and underserved communities through targeted programs.
